This is a caricature of my grandmother from when she was a young women. When I was little visiting her home I used to look at this drawing, imaging my grandmother as this young women, and wonder what she was doing on this day she when decided to stop to have her picture drawn. Was she having a wonderful afternoon, was she alone, or with a young suitor who gave her the drawing as a gift?
That is the magic of art, when the artist can capture the special element hidden in the
subject or composition which by exposing makes the viewer wonder about the life of
the subject and believe there is a story captured in the medium. I don't claim this drawing
to be the Mona Lisa, but for me it holds alot of intrigue. If I could have a conversation with anyone today, I would like to ask my grandmother about the women in the picture.
November 27th is the National Day of Listening, set aside an hour today to record a conversation with someone important to you and take the time to really listen!
